Beck's Pledge / Donation - UPDATE

Forgive me if I am confused about this donation. The website www.infund.org is reporting that "Glenn Beck has already pledged $25,000 to Into the Next Chapter to support George Wythe University, a private liberal arts college. That’s a penny a page for 2.5 million pages!"

So Beck pledged the money to www.infund.org, and when/if that site/organization earns the pledge and Beck actually cuts a check to it, will infund.org turn around and cut a check to George Wythe University?

How exactly does Beck's pledge to inFund translate to "support [for] George Wythe University"? The school's press release said "Beck urged supporting the private classical liberal arts university’s singular mission of building statesmen and made a personal donation of $25,000." That implies the donation was to the school.

Or is this yet another half-truth and obfuscation on the part of George Wythe University?

I'm confused about the connection here. Can anyone help me out?

Jefferson D. is probably including family members, maybe even his neighborhood.

Infund is actually run by GWU. People who have problems with the site are told to contact Laney Cheney who helps with the GWU fundraisers.

GOSSIP one of the seven "deadly sins" in scripture..and YOU are guilty before God Almighty. GUILTY in the first degree of salnder, cowardnss, now attacking children. What a crafty cyber bully you are, so tough hiding behind your computer, ripping into the character of others with zeal envied by the most dedicated of communist! YOU are certainly no Christian, and surely not as intelligent as you think. I bet if I gae you a job of planint one full acre of any crop, you "Mr smart guy" could't even do the math to handle it, much less the physical labor." In fact, I will challenge you to get off your tail, meet DeMille, tell him to contact me, and I will give you the chance to prove your worth. YOU won't. One day, Revelation 20:10-15 will commence, and YOU will be there "old buddy" judge by the very God you mock. Hell indeed has levels, and you'll fry pretty deep in there. By the way, as old as I am, is is "Mister Bell" to you hahahaha

In the many years that this old sinner has lived hahahahahah, I have never seen this amount of jealousy. Bud, YOU are "eaten up with jealousy, hatred and envy" regarding oliver DeMille. You hate everything he stands for, and your life revolvs around this hatred. Many of the "facts" you cite, are not true, not online, not to be found, and if they WERE..so what? God changes people sport! Hahah imagine a sinner like ME saying that (Cleon, I know your proud hahahaha). YOU have staated so many things tha are not accurate, and people belive thsi crap. I KNOW for a fact you've told untruths and lies. How do I know? Becasue i am old, and I have the MONEY, the time and the guts, to check things out "mister." And I persoanlly took the time to talk to every organization or person that you've maligned. YOU have lied. ANY fool knows that anybody can write things, pretending to be that organization or individual. You've done worse. You've stated many things that could NOT be proven in a court of law, if you had to. Your "evidence' would be some trashy article, some idiot comment, some quotation from a totally fabricated or unrelaibel source. I've check EVER article you have, and every source you've talked about. YOU have NOT talked with these people, you have NOT met with them, you have parroted many untruths. When you mocked my friend Cleon, that is the last straw! Your gossip, jealously, psuedo-intellectal approach, fabrication of "truth" is hellish, and that is where you will go. Do yo know about taht ida of "repent?" Well Methodists believe that if you dont', you will burn in hell. You need to repent. I Know. I've read and reserched everything you have. I am jsut curious why, you wont' meet wiht EVERY person you have a grudge against. Why sit behind that computer and write so much crap mister? "Like His master, his deads are darkesss..." not sure where that came from, but it sure appplies to you. Again, leave CLEON SKOUSEN out of all of this. I mean it. He was and is, a true friend.

After reading RC's latest outburst I am of the opinion that he needs to contact a shrink as soon as possible, for he is obviously suffering from inate hatred, who does he think he is ?, has he met these people, or better still Know them?, no he does"nt, but he continues to spew out untruth's and hatred, I suggest he get treated as soon as possible, in order to save himself from a well deserved law suite, for slander, liable, and much more, do us all a favor get treated, and get a life. I have not seen any criticisms of Cleon Skousen on this blog. I find some of these comments perplexing and rude.

I don't think R.C. needs a shrink, but on reading some of these posts, the writers come across in a threatening manner. That's why I too would rather remain anonymous.

R.C. I do not know or care to know who you are, but I am concerned that you continue to belittle, a very GOOD university and it's faculty, WHY, you seem to want to make it your lifes work to destroy a very good school, could it be that you have feelings of inferiority?. and pehaps there is some feelings of, " why did'nt I think of that".

You know it is never to late to start studying for a degree, if you do this, you wont have time for your continued barrage of VENUM on George Wythe.

By the way just out of interest I am not a Lawyer of any kind, but I am a person who belives in speaking out against people like you, who have nothing better in life to do, than belittle people who want to make America a better place. T.M.F.

RC, after reading your last comments,in answer to mine, I do belive if you would spend more time consentrating on your collage work and less on attempting to belittle a school, which is attempting to build our youth into men and women who will attempt to keep this country strong.

Just because it does not have the name, YALE or HARVARD, it is unjust that you continue to try to discredit it and it,s faculty.

By the way, just out of interest were are you studying.perhaps it also may not be a good school, is it accredited?.

I cant wait to read your nextcomments, T M F

George Wythe is CLEON Skousen's dream! Soo you still haven't commented on the steps given in Matthew 18:15-18, which dictates that YOU "mister PHD" see Oliver face to face hummmmmmm "very manly" of you........so impressive. Haven't you figured it out yet son? GW was founded in the mind of CLEON. HE was the mastermind and GW was HIS dream. Why do you think he mentored oliver or even Sills? Thoses guys are smart alright, but the mastermind, the genius, the planner of all of it was CLEON. The genius behind ALL of it is CLEON SKOUSEN, and when you assult the school, you attack CLEON SKOUSEN and his vision. AS smart as you are "Mr PHD" I would have thought, that through all of this, you would hae figured it out by now hummmmmm coffeee time

First of all you state that you will not continue this discussion if I continue personal attacks on you, does not this seem hypocritical of you, for you continue your attacks on G W U.and for what reason I cannot understand, simply because they have a different approach to education than you are used to.

They are not yet accredited as they have not had time for this yet, let me ask you this, was your school accredited within the first two years of it's founding?.or did it have to work toward this?.

I really belive you must reavaluate your thinking and have an open mind to new things, perhaps your world would be a brighter one if you were not so close minded. T,M.F.

Wow, I don't keep up on the blog for a few weeks and I miss all this action?! Darn it! ;)

If Beck's pledge really was as the post has reported, I would have to agree that GWU's reporting of this donation is an "obfuscation". Point conceded.

The comments here against RC and TRGW are an embarrassment. However I strongly disagree with RC's assessment that this is a "typical personality that exists at GWU". It is quite apparent that this barrage of ill-written comments are the work of one or two individuals. Such generalizations from either side of an argument are self-serving and misrepresent the truth.

I would encourage all who comment here to maintain some professionalism.

R.C. said...

James F., I admit it, it was a cheap shot. Tell me why more reasonable GWU students don't come post here?

James F. said...

Good question R.C. I don't know why more of those associated with GWU don't comment here. Perhaps they believe the truth is better served with their silence. Or they fear that constant rebuttals to this blog would only give it more legitimacy.

Anon, or TMF--whoever he is apparently didn't get the memo. ;) Though I think it is obvious that he isn't student at GWU. I would be interested in his admission as to exactly what his relation is to GWU.

I wish that more students and faculty did participate in these discussions. Though most of the blog posts here are written with an established agenda against the school, there have still been many well made legitimate points. I hope that GWU improves because of it.

You shouldn't dignify most of these comments with a response. The poster(s) are quite clearly insane fanatics that wave their bibles and condemning fingers at anyone who happens to disagree with them on anything, regarding any topic.

The blog administrator has posted no religious accusations of any kind, so to those who have, I think your behavior is profoundly less Christian than the administrators. If your "god" sends me to hell for that observation, he's probably there himself. Cause he doesn't sound like a very nice guy.

Blog Administrator, you shouldn't delete their worst posts, they are incriminating. They show off just how batty and wacked out these people are.

Someone said: "When you mocked my friend Cleon, that is the last straw! Your gossip, jealously, psuedo-intellectal approach, fabrication of "truth" is hellish, and that is where you will go."

So stating a criticism of a guy is grounds to go to hell ... once again we're dealing with a sadistic and unreliable god. My guess is the real god doesn't operate that way.

But that aside, I'll come out and say it since no one else will, Cleon Scousen is the quintessential pseudo-intellectual. And telling people "you're goin ter hell, sonny" is silly, juvenile, and the clearest sign of having no case. A lack of argument. A failure to create a coherent counterpoint. It's like swiping the board in a chessmatch just before checkmate because you can't come up with any kind of valid move to play.

Care to try a more rational and intellectually honest approach?

Seems to me, Mr smart guy, that at the beginning of all of this, I gave you my name. That would be "Mister Bell" to you hahahah old as I am I think it's proper. And since you adn your shawdow avoid Matthew 18 liek the plauge of Egypt, "Moreover if they brother shall respass against thee, go and tell him his fault between thee and him alone: if he shall hear thee, thou hast gained abrother." Stop all of your arguing, and go back to the Bible. You mormos say you belive it..so start practicing it sporty. You attacked Cleon, GW, Sils, Oliver and not one time, have you met with each of them to discuss your differances. I woudl say then, you are in violatin fo "God's law" an dyou wil..mr smart guy..answer to HIM.. fact. MR Bell

Bell, I am not Cynical Pen nor R.C. for your information.

Bell, Oliver and friends are not my enemies. I do know Oliver and Shanon and find them arrogant and pompous ... like you. You think you know me, but you know nothing. You assume I was a missionary and am a Mormon, but maybe I am a Methodist like you or an atheist. You assume I'm male, but maybe I'm female. I will tell you that I am a student at GWU and financial supporter as well. It is just recently that I discovered how false the main people at GWU are. As for Matthew 18, I admitted nothing. I just said that I will withdraw my financial support and let them know why. Start applying those scriptures to yourself and see the huge beam in your eye before you judge the mote in another's eye. Christ will be my judge, thank goodness, not you. And, it is evil of you to say I broke a commandment when you are NOT Christ. Do not dare to assume His role!

GOSSIP is still wrong and cowardly!!
hahaha ur a gossip who did NOT go to those you harbor grudges against. That is not only un-Biblical, it is cowardly..woman or man..who cares?? it's cowardly not to meet those you disgree with first..face to face. YOU didn't, nor did the other two pinheads, who pride themsleves in being religious members of the LDS community. Furthermore, I never said you were female, male, communist, gay whatever..even lesbian. Waht I did say is taht ALL of you are cowardly..when you do NOT follow Matthew 18:15-18. Do you have any idea what gossip does? As old as I am, I've seen it destroy people, rip them to shreads. By the "pinhead" actions of you and your buddies who rip GW, your gossip has torn many people, while you act so pious and arrogant. Get real! Frankly I don't CARE if you liek GW, or the school. I dont' CARE if you ar LDS or a Jesus Freak, or if you are withdrawing support form GW. SOOOO waht? What I get tird of, is cowards who sit behind computers indulging in gossip, using lies and fabrications to hurt people. TAHT is why I dont' like religion, at all. Jesus is the King (even Elvis said that!) and HE didn't gossip ever. Look to HIM as your example on personal conduct, not anybody else. BEFORE you wrote anything at all about GW, you should have gone to every person involved, as should have the other pinheads. YOu dindt', so you "broke the rules" (and NOT mine sweet thang!) Good wisdom from that old Book...ummmmm seems like coffee time to me..not Postum either hahaha laughing so hard now hahahahaha... :) Won't drink coffee, careful not to do so many little things, yet GOSSIP is lookd upon as beign okkk, what a pike of crap! okkk Jave time, and before you get all upset , to READ Matthew 18:15-18..ohh and you are NOT Methodist, or Presbyterian, Baptist, nope ur LDS and ur conscience is relaly bothering you now. Good at least for one of you, there is some hope. Want some Expresso?? mucho gusto

So I've got a great idea. How about we stop posting under "Anonymous" and just use an alias unique to your posts just to keep things a little more understandable around here. It actually is still anonymous...but it helps everyone keep track of who is saying what.

Deal? Deal.

Oh, and I too would like to hear some more background and experience from "Anonymous" at 9:11 p.m if you are willing to share.

And "Bell"--I do urge you to take a step back and try to determine how your comments are doing anything other than making yourself look fanatical and hurting the support of GWU and DeMille and Co. As a supporter of the aforementioned, I welcome your thought out, intellectual comments, but not this flaming that makes up most of what you say.

Anonymous said...

Hmm . . . first you say you don't care what I am, then you want to tag me with the LDS label. Could it be that perhaps you're projecting what you are? Hmmm? Oliver and Shanon and you don't face YOUR detractors. You dismiss them as inconsequential. This Coffee-Bell is arrogance which is how you and Oliver and friends treat others. People try to talk to them and they're dismissed because they're not important enough. I've tried to make my views known only to be patted on the head and told that the situation will get better. But when they're hard up for money, I get emails and phone calls from Shanon and Laney Cheney. No more! I'm done with their lies. I don't want others to get ripped off like I did - but perhaps you do. Hmmm?

As for you being irreligious, I find it odd that you're so hung up on Matthew 18. GWU is a business and as such I only say let the buyer beware. I was a dope for buying their product, so I will let the business people know that their product is faulty by withdrawing my support. If I am a gossip for desiring to tell others my experience and letting them know both sides, then you're right, I am a gossip and proud of it. I will continue to let others know about faulty products my cantankerous "friend," even if you would rather they continue to use the product blindly. Hmmm . . . protecting others with the truth or not gossiping? Well hit me with a 2x4! Gossiping just might be Christian after all. Let's drink to that my "friend."

I started attending then GWC several years ago. Since I have a family, I could only do so on a part-time basis. I got caught up in having a St. John's College or Thomas Aquinas type education. I was led to believe that GWC was even better than these other two schools. Initially, I was told that I would be assisted by certain people on staff throughout my education journey. I agreed to pay thousands of dollars for this one-on-one education. After the agreement, I was left pretty much on my own to figure out how to fulfill certain requirements. I was never contacted - like they said I would be - for a meeting on course direction. I felt that once they had my money I was on my own. In addition to the money I paid for all the courses I needed to graduate I had to pay even more money for extention classes that would help me meet some of their requirements because they said that these extention classes were a separate entity from their regular classes. This was puzzling to me, but I thought these people really cared about me, so I trusted them. In these extention classes, we would read classics, discuss them, and sometimes write papers. My desire for feedback was hardly ever met. The person mentoring one of these classes was too busy working with her private mentees to give the rest of us any substantial feedback on our papers. The reading was rigorous but the mentoring was average. I did get myself a private mentor and found better feedback in someone who has become a close friend of mine.

I just have a few classes to take before I graduate. I don't want to continue with this school, yet I put out so much money that my spouse thinks I should get something for it.

As for the school asking me for money, all I can say is that my spouse and I donated money for them to build the school on the frontage road and are making monthly payments to help with the school in Monticello. In addition, we were getting phone calls from Shanon asking if we could contribute more to the school. Lately, it's been Laney Cheney who requests more support money from us. My spouse and I thought we were contributing to something good, but it appears each day to be a sham. Any good that's done by people outside of GWU would have been done whether they went there or not. These are the people that become the "stars" of the school. The rest are just taken for their money - that's the way I see it. I'm just mad at myself for thinking I could trust them. Well, all I can say is "live and learn." I will no longer be supporting them, and I might not end up graduating. They got a lot of money from me, and I just read a bunch of good books.

cynicalpen said...

If there's one basic rule in economics that holds true it's that sunk costs are irrelevant. In other words, if what you expect to put into something is more than you expect to get out of it, it's a bad deal *regardless* of how much you already invested.

As for graduating understand that the "degree" you would be receiving is just them stamping their seal of approval on you but it carries neither weight nor merit anywhere else. In fact, to people outside, it's just a stamp that says "I'm a sucker."

If graduating requires even one more nickel or minute of your time, it is not worth it.

My advice? Just forget about it and move on. Cut off whatever support you're giving the school and consider it a lesson well learned. Yes, you were conned.

That said, I'm glad you're seeing through their web of lies, false promises, and mumbo jumbo.
